It was fairly cloudy earlier in the evening but the sky cleared up before to occultation began. The Sun set at 20:38, the occultation started at about 21:02 and ended at about 22:10 local time. Of course I was late setting up my ETX-70AT. Even though I was ready I did not manage to photograph Saturn before the occultation started. I did however manage to photograph Saturn shortly after it reappeared.
This was my first attempt at holding a cell phone camera up to the occular. The picture was taken at 22:13. Nothing brilliant but what do you expect for a first try? You can actually see that it is Saturn (especially if you already know it’s Saturn). Attempts to take photographs by holding a digital camera up to the occular did not give much better results – difficult to line up the optics and to focus accurately.
